Classroom Protocol
Mrs. Barent
2003-2004

Each Day:

1. Come in, get out your study guide journal, sit down and begin working. Answer the question on the board, then journal. What is a study guide journal (SGJ) you ask?

YOU WILL BE CONSTRUCTING YOUR OWN STUDY GUIDE THIS YEAR. WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT IS WHAT YOU WILL GET OUT OF IT!!! EACH DAY WHEN YOU COME IN, THERE WILL BE A QUESTION ON THE BOARD. THIS QUESTION WILL ADDRESS WHAT WE COVERED IN CLASS THE DAY BEFORE. YOUR STUDY GUIDE JOURNAL IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. THIS JOURNAL WILL BE YOUR STUDY GUIDE FOR TESTS AND QUIZZES, AND YOU MAY EVEN GET TO USE IT ON THE TEST OR QUIZ. BE PREPARED FOR POP QUIZZES!! YOU CAN ALSO JOURNAL IN THESE STUDY GUIDES. USE THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ASK ME QUESTIONS, WRITE ABOUT EXPERIENCES, CRITIQUE ME OR THE ACTIVITY WE JUST DID. I WILL TAKE A LOOK AT THESE JOURNALS ONCE A WEEK TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON TRACK AND THAT YOU HAVE A RELIABLE RESOURCE FROM WHICH TO STUDY. MOST LIKELY, TEST AND QUIZ QUESTIONS WILL REFLECT WHAT YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT IN YOUR SGJs. YOUR STUDY GUIDE JOURNAL IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!!!

2. Once you feel you have answered the question of the day adequately, discuss your answer with a partner and make sure you both feel you have a good understanding of the concepts being addressed.

3. We will review as a class, possibly have a quiz, then move on with the day’s lesson.

Expectations: (failure to meet any of these expectations may result in a detention)

1. I expect you to come to class prepared, which means homework completed and ready to participate.

2. I also expect you to respect yourselves and each other. Put-downs will not be tolerated.

3. I expect you to put forth your best effort every time you step in to the classroom. Come ready to think, focus, question, analyze, and discuss.

4. Communicate with me. If you like or dislike something we are doing, let me know. If something we are doing makes you uncomfortable, let me know.

5. BE SAFE. BE CAREFUL. ASK QUESTIONS. Follow the lab safety rules. We may be working with some materials that when handled incorrectly, could be dangerous.

Policies:

1. My door is always OPEN. If you are having troubles keeping up in class, with assignments, or with anything else, come see me and we’ll talk!!!

2. Grades: I will follow the grading system adopted by the district.
1=Excellent 94-100
2=Above Average 86-93
3= Average 78-85
4=Below Average 70-77
5=Failure 69 and below

3. Late work and failed tests: For every day an assignment is late (not including absences), it will be docked a number grade (8 pts). That means if you hand an assignment in one day late, and you got a 94 on it, it drops to an 86. Two days late, a 78, and so on. Again, if you are having troubles keeping up, or just can’t seem to get that one assignment done, come see me. We’ll talk about it. You are expected to pass your tests. If you fail to do so, you will retake the test before or after school within 2 school days. You will retake the test as many times as it takes to receive a passing grade.

4. Absences: When you are absent, come see me! I will have a set of class notes and any handouts you need! For each day you are gone, you will have 1 day to make-up that work. This may mean staying after or coming before school to complete the work.

5. Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating may receive a zero. Those caught cheating will be responsible for making up the work either before or after school.

6. Subs: When a sub is here I expect you to be on your best behavior. Any misbehavior or disrespect reported to me will result in 5 hours detention with Mr. Eledge.

7. NO pop or food in the classroom. Anyone caught with pop or food will receive 1 hour of detention.

8. Passes: If you are late to class (not in your seat or working when the bell rings), and do not have a pass, you will receive a tardy. After four tardies, 1 detention will be served with Mr. Eledge. If you need to see the nurse you must have a pass from a teacher, first. If you want to go to the library, you must have a pass from Mrs. Schrack or Mrs. Krajicek, before you go to the library.
