COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is an in-depth study of world history dating from 200 A.D. to the
present. Students will analyze major turning points in world structures including:
the European Renaissance and Reformation, the rise of the Ottoman empire, World
Wars I and II, the Cold War, the democratic revolts in Europe, Russia, China,
and Africa, and the cultural assimilations of the 20th century. Emphasis will
be placed on comprehension of these events from a multi-cultural perspective,
outside the traditional Euro-centric view. Students will utilize textbooks, supplemental
reading, classroom discussion, research projects, guest speakers, and interactive
computer software.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Textbook: World History: Patterns of Interaction.
A Notebook
A Pen or pencil
Supplemental materials handed out in class.
ATTENDANCE:
STUDENTS are responsible for seeing the instructor about any work missed due to
an absence. Check with the instructor the day you return to school to get any
missed work. You have the same amount of days that you were absent to finish uncompleted
work. Failure to make up this work within the allotted time will result in a late
grade.
EVALUATION:
EXAMINATIONS: There will be 16 chapter tests. Each test is worth 30-50
points. Test dates will be announced in class at least one week in advance.
* Each failed test must be completely corrected by the student within 48 hours
after the
students graded test has been returned. This must be done before or after
school. The
highest possible final grade a student may receive with a retake is a 70%.
DAILY WORK: Daily work assignments will be given at the end of each section
during the chapters. Adequate class time will be given to complete these assignments.
* Daily work must be completed each day in time for class. An assignment not completed
by the assigned time will be completed after school THAT SAME DAY. The highest
possible grade on a late assignment will be a 70%.

3. World War I Newspaper Project
4. World War II News Broadcast
CHEATING: Cheating on any assignment will not be tolerated and may automatically
result in a ZERO. In addition your parent and/or guardian could be notified and
additional punishment be assessed.
GRADING: Grades will be figured by adding your point total accumulated
from tests, daily work, projects, and other assigned work and dividing the total
points possible into this number. Semester grades will be figured by averaging
the two quarter scores together.

A: 100%-94% B: 93%-86% C: 85%-78% D: 77%-70% F: 69% and below
