Cynthia S.
(Chard) Kernen
03/24/59 - 09/18/02
Cindy passed away at the age of 42 of a heart
disorder at her home in rural Woodbine, Iowa.
At GHS, Cindy participated in FBLA and choir. Shortly after graduation, Cindy moved to Salt Lake City, Utah for
two years and then moved to Denver, Colorado.
After three years in Denver, Cindy returned to Iowa and resided in the
Logan area. She was employed as a CNA
at the Westmont Care Center in Logan and was also an EMT for the Logan Fire
Department. Cindy enjoyed Nascar,
collecting Wizard of Oz collectibles, crocheting, and was known for her apple
pies and cinnamon rolls. Cindy married
Daniel Kernen April 25, 2001 in Glidden, Iowa.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Daniel Kernen; daughter, Shelayne
Sutton; parents, Barb Morrison and Richard Chard; and brother Larry Chard.
Roy D. Peters
09/03/58 - 01/25/95
Roy passed away from Melanoma cancer at the age of
36. While attending GHS, Roy
participated in VICA, G-Club, and was on the wrestling team in which he
qualified for the State Tournament his junior and senior years. After high school, Roy attended Wesleyan
University in Lincoln and was a member of their wrestling team. He later received an Associate Degree in
electronics from Gateway Electronics.
Roy carried on his father's business, Peters Refrigeration, and
also worked for Valley Ice as a service technician. Roy married Valerie Snider May 1, 1994 and found much happiness
being a father to her daughters, Margarita and Louisa. Roy loved Big Red football and enjoyed
spending time at his cabin on the Elkhorn River with his family and two German
Shepard dogs. Roy is most remembered
for all the lives he touched as a mentor and his dedication to helping
others. Roy was preceded in death by his
father, Richard Peters, and is survived by wife, Valerie; daughters, Margarita
and Louisa; mother and stepfather, Mary Lou and Larry Melton; brother, Bob; and
sisters, Joan, Jackie, Julie, and Jeanette.
Joan M. (Weeth)

01/02/59 - 05/08/88
At the age of 29, Joan died from injuries
sustained in a tornado that swept through her home, north of Gretna, the
evening of May 7, 1988. While at GHS,
Joan participated in Pep Club, Art Club, Student Council, Volleyball, sang in
the choir, served as a librarian, and was a class officer her junior year. Following graduation, Joan attended banking
school and Patricia Stevens Secretarial School. She worked for the Bank of Papillion while in high school and
continued to work there until 1880 until moving to the Bank of the Midlands. Joan married Dennis True on April 7, 1979
and the joy of their life, Lynn Marie, was born April 14, 1986. Tragically, Lynn also died in the same
storm. Joan enjoyed being a mom and a
country girl. Joan and Lynn are
survived by husband, Dennis; parents, Rodney and Margaret Weeth; and brother,
Scott Weeth.
