CAREER CLUSTERS

Introduction:

To help students and parents choose high school classes and develop a curriculum plan (called a 2 + 2 Plan), classes at GHS are organized into clusters. Gretna's four career clusters are based on Holland's Interest Areas. Holland's theory is that there are six similar personality types and work environments. The six types:

R: Realistic: are interested in doing work that is practical and useful, involves using machines or working outdoors. They prefer mechanical activities and working with their hands.

I: Investigative: are interested in doing work that involves science and math, solving problems, or creating new things. Are less interested in supervising people.

A: Artistic: are interested in creating works of art, literature, music, or dance. They like to write, draw, paint, sing, or play a musical instrument. They prefer to work on their own, with their own rules.

S: Social: want to have an impact on other people's lives by teaching or counseling or healing or helping them. They like working with others and are less interested in mechanical activities.

E: Enterprising: like public speaking, leading a group, or influencing others. Are less interested in scientific tasks.

C: Conventional: are interested in using office skills, keeping records, and doing computations.
