SCHOLARSHIPS: April
ATTENTION SENIORS:

It is YOUR responsibility to bring in your award letters and scholarship offers (whether you accept the award or not). This is the only way our office can publicly recognize your efforts. Scholarship winners will be recognized at Honors Night (May 12) and in local newspapers (Gretna and Omaha). The list of scholarship winners is based on information brought into the Guidance Office before May 1st.


LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS:
All local scholarships have been available and can continue to be picked up in the Guidance offices by seniors. The deadline for completed local scholarships is Friday, April 11th.


Local Scholarships Available

American Legion -
Recipient must be a relative of current members on the Gretna Legion Post 216 - either child or
grandchild.

American Legion Auxiliary -
Recipient must be child or grandchild of current or deceased member of the Gretna
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 216.

American National Bank -
Recipients must enroll at the University of Nebraska Omaha in the College of Business.
Preference to students interested in banking or business.

DLR Architecture -
Students interested in pursuing a degree in Architecture or building engineering design.

Gretna Baseball Foundation -
Must be 2008 Current Gretna Baseball Team member.

Gretna Basketball Association -
Applicants should have supported or participated in school sponsored activities. Preference given to student who have worked with GBA youth basketball prgrams.

Gretna Booster Club -
Applicants should have supported or participated in school sponsored activities.

Gretna Chamber of Commerce -
Applicants should be interested in pursuing a career in business.

Gretna Education Association -
Preference given to students entering education.

Gretna Band Parents -
Senior in band with active participation 9-12.
Gretna Optimist -
GHS senior pursuing a 2 or 4-year degree.

Gretna Pinnacle Bank -
Preference given to students who will major in business or a business related field.

Gretna Youth Sports Foundation -
Participation in athletics at GHS with a GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Gretna PTO -
Gretna Elementary

Gretna PTO - Palisades Elementary -
Recipient attending a two-year college.

Gretna PTO - Thomas Elementary -

Recipient must be pursuing a degree in education.

Sons of the American Legion -
Available to graduating seniors who attend Gretna High School.

St. Patrick’s Century Club -
Must be member of Gretna St. Patrick’s Church.

St. Patrick’s Pastoral Council -
Must be member of Gretna St. Patrick’s Church.

Tom Leehy Memorial -
Participant must be a three sport scholar/athlete.

Gretna Public School Foundation -
Includes the following scholarships:

GHS Foundation Four Year College -
Anyone attending a four (4) year college.

GHS Foundation Voca tional/Tech Scholarship -
Anyone attending a two (2) year college.

Joseph Koke Memorial Firefighter's Scholarship -
Child of a member of the Gretna

Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

Fran Walsh Memorial Scholarship -
Available to any senior.

Hazel Lyn Kolbo Memorial Scholarship -
Must plan to become a teacher

Kay Kolbo Russell Memorial Scholarship -
Female athlete planning on a career innursing or medical field.

Arlisse Barkley memorial Scholarship -
Available to any senior.

Jayne Haldeman Bachman Memorial Scholarship-
Senior seeking a degree in business.

Kurt Frahm Memorial Scholarship -
Senior pursuing a technical or vocational career.

Barton Fleck Memorial Scholarship -
Senior pursuing an education in the medical field.

James F. Peterson Memorial Scholarship -
Senior with interest in music and travel and of financial need.

Sarpy County Farm Bureau Home Economics/ Agriculture Scholarship Applicant attending a Nebraska college or university majoring in Agricultureor Home Ec. Due by April 15. Amount: $500

Nebraskans for Peace Scholarship.
Recipients will be
students who wish to further their education in an area consistent with the mission of Nebraskans for Peace: Peace with justice through community building, education and political action. $500 and $100 scholarships available by email at NFPScholarship@gmail.com by April 10th.

Learn and Work Scholarship.
Sponsored by Sheridan
Lutheran Church, Lincoln Journal Star, and the HiMark Golf Course for up to $4000 for a student of need. Moreover, it seeks to reward those students who have endured much, overcome many obstacles, and whose trials in life have focused their vision for their

Chevrolet Classics Club of Omaha/Council Bluffs
Applicant pursing studies related to the automotive industry. For a chance at $1000 apply by April 15th. Applications in the Guidance office.

Tuskegee Airmen Inc. Scholarship
Need, activities and community involvement required for this $750
scholarship that is due by April 19.

Union Bank “Money to Learn” Scholarships
Applicants must be a high school senior with an ACT
of at least 20; rank in upper 1/3 of his or her class; and
attend a Nebraska college. Applications available at
www.asapubt.com. Amount: $1,000.
Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation:
More info at www.buffettscholarships.org. Deadline is
April 10. Financial need and 2.5 gpa.

US Bank Internet Scholarship Program:
30 $1,000 scholarships awarded in random drawing. Apply online at usbank.com/studentbanking. Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Car Council’s Paul High Memorial Scholarship Any senior planning on enrolling in an automotive technology program is
eligible to apply. Deadline: April 15.

UNL Alpha Gamma Nu Fraternity Scholarship

Alpha Gamma Nu will offer a $500 scholarship to a freshman
male entering UNL. Students must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement. Amount: $500. Deadline: May 31.

Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead Scholarship Program
